The Art meets Science programme, developed by Re:People as an initiative to promote sustainable economic development in Serbia, seeks to bridge scientific discovery and technological innovation with industries in dire need of environmental enhancement through the lens of the art world. This project is an ongoing effort led by our art team that brings together noted artists as well as promising up and comers in the Balkans with research teams looking to develop technology that has the potential to transform society as we know it. One annual exhibition takes place in the fall, with the help of our partners.
The project aims to foster collaboration with the intention of furthering scientific understanding of the medium it researches through artistic practice.
In the debut instalment of the Art meets Science programme, Re:people collaborated with the IMGGE to bring audiences closer to the world of biopigments. With the invitation to contribute to the year long interdisciplinary project, artists Emir Šehanović, Emilija Radojičić, Jovana Čavorović, Dragana Lukić and Sonja Lundin worked with the team from IMGGE, researching new approaches to an innovative challenge in ecological sculpting, weaving, installation art and printmaking. The project resulted in two exhibitions – at the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade and the Petrović Foundation in Montenegro, guided tours as well as a retrospective panel discussion at the co-working hub Nova Iskra in partnership with the MADE IN Platform.
