In line with the conference programme, the Center for Public Policy Research is pleased to present “Lunch Break”, a solo exhibition by artist Nemanja Golijanin, which will open May 22nd, 12:00 at the TransformArt Gallery in Belgrade.
Using a map as a template for precise representation of locations, urban areas, and global territories, through drawings the artist intervenes to focus on the everyday lives of platform workers and the various collective spaces within which they navigate their paths.
The exhibition, titled “Lunch Break,” problematizes the context of social processes in which on-location platform work (food delivery) is depicted through art in a sarcastic and humorous manner, occasionally highlighting the harshness and absurdity of this work. This new concept of work has entered our everyday lives, yet citizens and consumers of platform work are somewhat unaware of it. The world of speed, adaptation, and “breaking through the crowd” is actualized through this exhibition, both through drawing and video work, constituting a space that is both real and uncertain at the same time.
The project aims to use artistic means to shed light on the pros and cons of the new world of work and enable both the general public and the protagonists and creators of this work (platform workers, platforms, consumers, creators of public policies, and citizens in general) to better understand the context of new forms of work and the realization of human rights in the field of labor.
Nemanja graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Department of Painting. As a result of his achievements in figurative drawing research, he received a scholarship for the Faculty of Fine Arts at the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Italy. After completing his studies, he continued to exhibit both domestically and internationally. He is a co-author on artistic projects at the Cluster Art Platform. He lives and works in Belgrade.
